A.D. Makepeace Cranberry Tour

The Makepeace business has been growing cranberries since the 1800s. Abel D. Makepeace established hundreds of acres of bog across southeastern Massachusetts and became known as “The Cranberry King.” Today, the company farms approximately 1,750 acres of bog in the towns of Carver, Middleborough, Plymouth, Rochester and Wareham. A.D. Makepeace is the largest grower-owner of Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., and the largest cranberry grower in the world. Barnstable Village’s Haunted & History Walking Tour

Are you looking for something out of the ordinary to fill your evening? Discover this unique walking tour of the historic and haunted “Old Kings Highway” in Barnstable Village. You will hear stories of the conflict between the Loyalists and the American Whigs (Patriots) and how England had a stronghold on this small quaint town. There are over ten stops on the tour and eight have ghost stories. Visit Cobb’s Hill Cemetery where many strange and unusual things have taken place, and the Barnstable Tavern & Restaurant where a mischievous specter lurks in the dining room. The tour finale ends with the “Old Jail” built in the 1690’s by order of Massachusetts Bay Colony Courts, which is actively haunted.
